Headgear Ottoman janissary 1810-1826 ?
« on: March 19, 2014, 01:56:28 PM »
During the back end of the Napoleonic era and into the opening engagements if The Greek War of Independence the typical high headgear worn  by the janissary corps was replaced by a quilted hat,
whilst there are a few pics of this hat there are no detailed pics of the top, can anyone help?

I'd hazard a guess that the quilting tapers into the middle of the top........ Fixed with a button?
'So do all who see such times. But that is not for us to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that we are given.'

The picture in the middle suggests some kind of black button or pom pom.

here is a link to the Istanbul military museum, with hundreds of pictures.
http://www.pbase.com/dosseman/miltary_maritime_museum
and the google image search link with the turkish word for it  Yeniçeri
https://www.google.de/search?q=Yeni%C3%A7eri&client=firefox-a&hs=7SE&rls=org.mozilla:en-GB:official&channel=np&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=9qgwU8CcB4iMtQaK14DQCQ&ved=0CAkQ_AUoAQ&biw=1280&bih=681
