Scots kilts in the war of 1812?
« on: March 14, 2014, 10:17:54 PM »
Hi Lads
Did any Scottish regiments wear kilts. over the pond fighting them yanks in 1812 war  ?

As a friend has asked me to paint up a unit of  old minifigs 25mm  to fit in with my 1812 yanks  i was hoping that the 90th might of worn kilts could any of you put me on the right track please ,70th where Glasgow lowlands so i take it that they would not of had kilts ?BUT could the 93rd reg Sutherland Highlanders  worn the kilt?

If any of you chap can help be out with this skirt problem i have, that would be great  :D

I am pretty sure that the 93rd regiment where in trews rather than kilts in the War of 1812 - in fact according to the Osprey Men at Arms "Wellingtons Infantry 2" some would have been in grey trousers.

They would also have been wearing the bonnet without feathers.

I think that Old Glory may do suitable figures in 28mm

Chartrand's Osprey book on British uniforms in North America notes that the 2/93rd "apparently" wore kilts while stationed in Newfoundland in 1814-1815. It was the 1/93rd that wore trews while campaigning along the Gulf Coast during the same period.
