Building a barn.
« on: March 26, 2014, 11:06:25 PM »
I am stuck in the states and do not have half my terrain tools available since they already immigrated.  But with no family here and no stuff I am bored out of my skull.  I decided to build a barn to keep myself entertained.  The technique that I used is in a tutorial that I posted here http://snitchythedog.blogspot.com/2011/03/minature-woodworking-made-easy.html.  It is a simple slatted barn with no other attached sheds.  I only used fireplace match sticks, coffee stirrers, and Popsicle sticks.  It only took about four hours over three evenings to build.  Hope you like.

Highlights added.  Two shades of grey.  I am planning on painting the whole barn white and trying the hairspray weathering teachnique to weather it.

Great stuff  :-*.

Like the way you built the frame and didn't just add the planking to foamboard  8).

on the corners your need an "outside corner post" you can look it up on Google, I did.  But its the two vertical pieces of siding that seal the corner end from the weather.  Really nice though.

Thanks.  I build all my buildings with interiors and for a barn, to me, foamboard would not look right.

This is not getting shipped with the rest of my stuff it is more for fun becasue I am stuck in the states and just becasue I am bored.  So I was not quite worried about having the detail just right.  When I finally get moved, I will be doing a proper barn for my personal terrain.
Thanks or the comps all.

Nice Barn Snitchy. Any miniature Amish helping you out? That one lass doesn't seem to be Amish, but she has good building skills :D

Cheers

Got the hairspray technique test done.  Link: .  Unfortunately even with sealing the build when I distressed the top coat it took the acrylic paint off.  I re-highlighted it but it still does not look right.   The chipping does look good though.  I think that I will finish weathering the build and see if it grows on me.  Any thoughts?

Sorry for the image quality.  Using only an ipod right now.  The good camera and light box is in the UK.
