Beginnings, glued hands and tanker questions
« on: July 02, 2008, 11:49:04 PM »
Good evening,

thanks to Ignatieff's advice and the pictures of the Kriegspielers' Baku game here, I started constructing a derrick. I have very limited skills in this field as I never have tried building anything from skratch before.

I commenced with some cheap chopsticks and plasticard. First make sure you use thick platicard for walls and other structures, the one I had is probably too thin (first oops), second make sure you have the proper tools (oops again) and finally learn how to cut a straight line (....you get it).  ::)

I have no idea what I have gotten myself into, but..... actually the project is coming along and might actually turn out according to plan...

My question for today is about T-ford tankers. I noticed one in one of the wonderful pictures of the Baku game and wonder if Matchbox or Lledo is the way to go for Copplestone comparability?

(Should have asked this before actually bidding on both makes on ebay... oops number four.)

Also how easy is it to repaint a diecast vehicle?

I need livery colours for Allied Oil Company and Imperial Far Eastern Ltd (I forgot to tell you, the British have found oil in Tsaidam Basin, and are as we speak sending a detachment of infantry via its [very nominal] protectorate of Tibet [its so nominal that only the regency coucil in Llasa are aware of it] ).

Hi,
Repainting diecast vehicles isn't too bad. Take them apart (you may have to drill out the rivets), quick rub down with wet and dry, then use a car primer. then you repaint with the paints you use for your minis. Then you varnish with matte cote or whatever varnish you choose to use. Pappa Midnight redid an old van for 70's Sweeny style games.
The post is    Flying Squad Covert Ops Vehicle  and it's in Other Adventures.

Hope this gives you inspiration and helps.

  Cheers

  Fritzy

Re vehicles, I use Lledo.  They are too small to true scale, but I prefer it that way as otherwise vehicles can dominate proceedings a bit.

Fritzy is an artist, my approach is a bit more industrial:  spray them whatever colour you want (having removed exisiting decals beforehand) and then get the dry brushes and inks (for oil and rusting) going.  Takes about 20 minutes onces the spray has dried.  With most Lledo, you can take the tyres off before you spray, so that sorts that problem.  Decals.  Never cracked that one myself.  Home decal making leaves a big white colour in the background - as evidenced in my steam tanks, so I havent figured out a way to do the delicate stuff yet

Derricks arent too bad.  My skills are limited (very), so I would be confident.

"...and as always, we are dealing with strange forces far beyond our comprehension...."

All limitations are self imposed.  Work hard and dream big.

Company B makesa very nice Model T. If you're planning on converting one into something else, you can enter the contest they're running, too.
