foliage fixer
« on: April 03, 2014, 11:15:44 AM »
right, I have trees in progress and I would like the foliage to remain as in place as possible...

I tried watered down PVA which essentially washed off the Hob-e-tac and all the clumps fell off one by one like a very wet autumn, so I am currently hitting them with varnish, but wondering what else could help? I seem to remember Boots own brand hair spray is quite good or did I imagine that?

None perfumed hairspray is probably your best bet but it will possibly attract bits if dust and shit over time.

I may be able to help.  Having just made a load of hedges I cheated.  Getting miffed with how much Uhu glue they were drinking I changed the adhesive from glue to silicone sealant (the sort used for sealing holes in brickwork or running around the edges of baths.  Takes 24 hours to cure but after that the good ol' pva/water spray will fix a treat without obliterating the clump foilage
Smile!  It's not that bad!

but could you seal that with varnish afterwards to prevent that?

Wood glue. It's like an extra-strong PVA that dries waterproof.

Don't see a problem but you will have to test it first as you might get a reaction between the two different substances.

+1 on this.  I also use a touch of superglue to tack the clump foliage in place while the wood glue is drying.  Once set small bits might drop off but the whole clump is permanently set to the branch.  You can varnish afterwords if you want.
