I agree that PBI and PBI 2 are good possibles.  They have a real feel for the amount of fire going into a target and are great for competitive games offering you the chance to play a reasonable sized tournament in a day.  Abteilung are very different a set of rules and use differing mechanics.

Probably the best thing about PBI is that you get none of that arms race that can occur with other rule sets you will only ever need a few vehicles.  In 15mm you can play on a 4' * 4' table.

I do like PBI, but I am specifically looking to do an armor heavy battle, and I don't think PBI handles tanks particularly well. In addition, I'm not sure that it would handle the size of engagement I'd like to do, and I don't know how well it would work as a convention game.

The 3 sets that spring to mind for 1 stand or model = 1 platoon are:

Command Decision - no idea what the latest/current edition is though? Not sure whether it has stats for Hungarian army though?

Blitzkrieg Commander, 2nd Ed - based on Warmaster but heavily modified for combined arms warfare. Rules book includes lists and stats for Hungarians and Russians. This is a bit of a 'Marmite' system you will either love the randomness of the command system or applaud it for authentically representing 'friction'. YMMV.

WW2 Spearhead is another option, I'm not sure if it's still in print though? Hungarian stats and TO&Es were available on the web.

Rapid Fire have a book for Eastern Front catchily  titled 'Second Supplement, Unit organisations for the Russian Front 1941-45' which includes Hungarian TO&Es and vehicle stats. It's available on Amazon and Ebay according to my Google fu. The RF source books are easy to translate for use with any of the above systems.

I am no expert but I had a couple of fun games with TooFatlardies "I ain't been shot mum". Sounds about right size of game.

I think that Chain of Command was designed for very small actions (platoon) and I Ain't Been Shot Mum for Company(?).

Yeah CoC is pretty small-scale (from what my buddies say a single vehicle or two...max).  I haven't played IABSM before though.  The scale you're talking about would work well in Fireball Forward also if you're interested.

IASBM is for company sized actions, very nice, but still 1 to 1. I think the action you want to do will be compressed a bit. My first suggestion would have been Battlefront WW2 but your group does not like it.

The only other demo friendly rule sets are Spearhead (very simple, but really shine with a couple of brigades per side) or Blitzkrieg Commander in its 2nd edition. I have no problem with the command system sometime I am bothered by the hit system.  Command Decision Test of Battle is good, but probably not the best thing for a convention setting.

PS: why we are discussing a thread started in 2009? Has not the original poster already found and answer?  :D

THIS!!!

It really is pointless to reopen an anicent thread to answer a question that was asked 5 years previously.
Why on earth would you?
The world has moved on and so has the questioner.

There have been dozens (probably hundreds) of threads in the intervening 5 years discussing WW2 rules, including several quite recent ones prompted by the release of CoC etc.

I spotted the thread date only after replying... but it was on the front page for some days...  :o I fear the thing has gone up by mistake... Virus? Sabotage? Dark forces at work in the forum? Attempts to resuscitate dead peo... threads?

I suggest to move this thread to Pulp Adventures and have the latest posters, me included, examined by specialist from Arkham Univeristy to make sure they are not under the influence of some obscure being!   lol

Not necessarily - support lists may suggest limits but the rules work perfectly well with more vehicles, or indeed tank only battles.

Is this the Thread That Will Not Die! ?  Given the title, possibly so  :)

I enjoy playing the Brink of Battle ruleset for small scale games, anywhere from 5 to 20 models per side.
