Note that the shadows on the red flag are painted, it's no trick of light while taking the photograph! I wouldn't believe it if I hadn't seen it first hand.

The sailor's are loverly!

But... I gave the Bolshevik's the nod, cause he put together a great force, including the armored car, which I really like.

Another great armoured car and I wish I had thought of that shot composition. The sailors are pretty phenominal though.

You boys certainly don't make it easy for us. I just think Hazel's paint job is one tiny notch more inspired.

Would Lt Hazel be kind enough to say where the inspiration for those sailor's uniforms came from? I'd love to know more about their 'irregular' look.

I was going to ask about that too.  This is by no means a complaint, because the paintjob is beautiful, but I thought sailors had a more uniform appearance.

I´ve got my inspiration from the Osprey. They wore mixed naval and imperial uniform pieces, I think not straight from the beginning but later (?). The naval equipment was unpracticaly in the field, but they wore naval pieces with pride, as the sailours were some of the best troops the Reds fielded. And I love the campaign look!

Quite right too - thanks for your response! The campaign look is carried off wonderfully with these.

I guess that's the beauty of Russian uniforms; the lack of uniformity prevents the painter from going nuts with boredom.

I love the striped shirt, and you've got the scruffy, unshaven look down pat.

The Red Sailors are nicely painted, but my vote went to the Bolshevik Force as a more rounded unit, and quite nicely painted as well.
