Help with AK washes
« on: April 09, 2014, 08:22:31 PM »
Hi, I've not used AK washes  before.

For washing a German tank painted in Dunkelgelb I know I should use  Dark Yellow Wash (AK00300). But I was wondering if it would be a good idea to give the tank a couple of layers of brown filter (AK 076) first to add a bit more depth and richness to the vehicle? I would be using Vallejo Middlestone for my Dunkelgelb.

Many thanks.

I've used AK products on a couple of vechicles and I wouldn't bother with the filter, after all other effects I don't think it will be very noticeable.

Here is a jagdpanzer painted first with vallejo middlestone

Then the dark yellow wash in the recesses and so on, and then tidied up.

And then chipping, streaks, weathering, decals and so on and so on...

But on the other hand, why not give it a try  ;)

I've been thinking. What if I used my acrylic washes over a satin varnished surface, would they work just as well? I've read that varnishing first gives a much better flow

I use varnish between each  "step" but that's because I use white spirit to clean up the washes between the steps, and that would dissolve the acrylic paint.
Haven't noticed any difference in the flow but I've also read that that would make it better.
