I think its all about designing the 'super thing' in any game system.

I know I've done it in games like Space 1889 and Traveller. How big and nasty can I make something and still be legal.

Interestingly, within the genre of the game it's only real potential nemesis would be just who you imagine, Allan Quartemain, the original Great White Hunter. He might lose quite a few porters in the process though ...  ;)

If I am making a Fantasy section of this game I need dragons and large monsters so I am trying to figure out how to make those truly vicious  creatures that make the knight have clean his armour after hearing their name.
I am not looking for something that can not be defeated I am looking to make Dragons, mountain giants, Mammoth, Purple worms into something that a are hard to beat and it would require an entire league working together to take down. I am thinking more of the  Dragon being something in the center and two league trying to kill it and steal it treasure.

A "Kill the BEAST!" senario but the monster needs to be something that would be able to hold it's own against a league because a monster hunt is no fun if the monster is a paper tiger.

Craig having been destroyed and having destroyed dragons in OD&D (pre-white box days) it is an old tradition (at least 15 minutes old) to have small highly skilled (or specialized) parties try to "Kill the Big Bad" then burglarize his home.

Why not IHMN too?

Super Beast may be joined by other creatures that are not truly considered part of his "company", but are still obstacles to be defeated.  Some examples are:

- Cultists that offer the Beast sacrifices and guard/watch the entrance to his lair.
- Giant Rats that feed on the remains of the dead while he sleeps.
- The spawn/offspring of the Beast that have similar attacks, but much weaker.

There could also be environmental dangers:

-Toxic gases that are too weak to affect the constitution of the Beast but pose a hazard to the invading company.
- Pools of volatile/corrosive liquids that force the party to fight/approach in a roundabout way (unless, at their peril, they want to enter said pools).
- Dust/Detritus kicked up by the fighting/flailing of the Beast which it uses to it's tactical advantage.  This might put the party at a penalty to fight or shoot.
-Traps (natural or constructed)

How's that for thinking outside the box?   ;)

Oh, btw Glenn...

Third Sigma examples always stress a system...

Did you mean Six Sigma?  A process of improving a system by deleting/modifying/streamlining errors and redundancy?

Hell, NO!  Ick!  Bad experiences with the promised results of that...   >:(    :-[   :'(

I was referring to the outer edges of a bell curve - the "third sigma" is a term used by us dinosaurs for those outliers that are the extreme edges (high/low, "good"/"bad") of the bell curve results.

Glenn
