As Bill missed the second day's play it falls to me to update this report.
The Allies took such a beating on Day 1 that I had to re-set parts of the game in order for it to continue at all. Assuming an overnight break, the NVA and Viet Cong have slipped away to re-group. A second Allied convoy has been brought up and some additional airborne troops supplied. Lost armour has not been replaced.
The NVA changed tactics and decided on an all out assault on the firebase. To this end they manouevred a junk into the jetty and uncovered a light anti-tank gun which opened fire on the rear of the M48 - to no effect. An onboard VC unit opened fire and an NVA unit charged out of the undergrowth towards the hospital.
Two T55s broke cover and headed for the firebase.
The second M48 took out one of the T55s but was itself set on fire when it was overrun at the second attempt by a VC infantry unit.
On the river, a PT76 which had been firing on the hospital boat was taken out by a Cobra
The convoy was having an easier day of it losing just one cargo truck and destroying several VC units. The medevac helicopters picked up two downed pilots but failed to retrieve any wounded troops.
The firebase garrison fought off the various attacks and the day ended with a devastating Canberra strike against a VC held village. A third evening's play will be required to resolve the scenario.
