Sarissa landing craft - will it take a 1/48 Sherman?
« on: April 15, 2014, 10:13:54 PM »
Has anyone tried this? The one at Salute looked decidedly 1/56th!

Failing that - does anyone have the internal dimensions handy please - in all the excitement I forgot to whip out my tape-measure....

Great kit. You would have to cut the hull flat to make it playable though.

the MDF lasercut thing? gee, that's an ugly model...
I would stick to the Hobbyboss landing craft, it's flat bottomed anyway, waterlining it is not that much of an issue

Actually the Hobby Boss  one isn't quite flat hulled and requires quite a bit of cutting and sanding to get it to sit flat on a table. I've examined the prospect for my Portuguese.

I think that the Hobbyboss kit and the Sarissa kit have different functions.

If I want one landing craft for a diorama, the Hobbyboss kit has more detail.
However waterlining it nicely will take quite a long time.  I waterlined the Revell Viking ship and it was a surprisingly big job.

If I want several landing craft for a wargame scenario, then the Sarissa kit is much better.
It is quick to build and already waterline and about half the price of the Hobbyboss kit.

Well detail wise, you are never going to get the level of detail in MDF that you will get with a decent plastic kit and Hobby Boss make superb kits, just look at their T-34 with full and I do mean full, interior. That said, I quite like the look of the Corsec Engineering ones. The pricing is good and no surgery required to the lower hull. I want them for conversion purposes so for me the Corsec option is probably a better start point. I can always add detail.

I doubt the Corsec one will accomodate a 1/48 Sherman but do be aware, you will have a real modelling project on your hands if you decide to waterline the Hobby Boss version.

Actually just read the blurb on the Corsec website. They claim it will fit 1/48 vehicles.

Thanks all. I've already got three 1/72nd ones awaiting waterlining and I'm not relishing the prospect so I think I'll steer clear of the Hobbyboss one however nice it is!

I was unaware of the Corsec one(s), they look like a pretty good middle ground. Thanks again.
