We've banned the "meticulous planning" talent too. I did suggest that it could be treated like mesmerism (pluck tests on behalf of the thrower and target) but reactions had been so coloured by its original tryout that the other players didn't want to hear of it.
We've not really used the animals yet but I think, in a jungle setting, they could put a real edge into the game.

That's a strange reaction.

Have either of you actually played a game with the talent in it ?

We did, and found that while it made life complicated it wasn't a game buster. In fact the side with it lost !  :o

We must be doing something wrong .....  :-I

I think that the talent's power depends on the type of game your playing. While in a straightforward death match it won't have a huge impact, in an objective based game such as catch the pigeon it could have an almighty effect on the outcome of the game. I also don't think that its a bad talent merely under priced for what it does.
Thanks for the comments so far

A lot of our players are power crazed control freaks from the depths of competitive wargaming. Any hint of alien control of their pieces and fall to the floor frothing at the mouth...

On the other hand, if the game features any sort of objective, then the meticulous planning side just keeps moving enemy pieces carrying the objective back towards them or accelerates their own objective capturing piece into hyperspace.

"The one improvement would be the addition of colour and a few pictures..."

As I've said elsewhere, I'll swap fluff-and-images for useful game material (though, some fluff-as-background qualifies), as I'm fine with Messers Cartmell and Murton sharing pretty piccies on the blog. I believe Craig mentioned before that there was a limit to the amount of space allocated in the book.
