Transport for my Ratlings
« on: May 02, 2014, 04:24:59 PM »
I'm looking to get a vehicle or two to transport my Ratlings (space hobbits), and possibly some sci-fi'd up Kindred. Problem is I've no idea what I want so I thought I'd throw it out to the great knowledge base that is LAF.

My main problem is scale. Ratlings being small folk obviously would have difficulty driving a vehicle designed for a human - as I discovered at the weekend its imoortant to be able to press the break pedal  :) That means most 28mm vehicles are too big. Would 15mm be too small?

Any help/guidance appreciated.

GZG Combat Car from Daemonscape uk

Combat Jeep

there are also alternative Versions from Old Crow

They are the sort of thing I was thinking about. I don't want them heavily armed or armoured, more along the lines of what you suggested.

Are the Old Crow ones still available?

I have had the same quandry with my Grymn horde... which vehicles suit them.

15mm is too small.

The 25mm stuff from Old crow and Ground Zero Games/Daemonscape is perfect for them as is the old Kryomek stuff. In addition to this, I would suggest that some of the Void vehicles from Scotia Grendel will work (especially the Ronin vehicles - I have one and will eventually get it painted for my Judges):

Here's a ronin and a Daemonscape VTOL:

Also the TAV (two very similar):

I am quite fond of the Tigers as well:

More pix with Grymn:

Another thought should be spared for Westwind Productions and their British APC (it has a nod towards the Kindred Brits too ;) ):

If you find anything else that may fit, please let me know, I'm always keen for more choice... I'm always on the lookout for transport options for my Grymn horde :D

Thanks for that comprehensive list Inso. I spent quite a while lost in your thread and blog yesterday and your stuff is inspirational. I'll let you know if I find anything useful. BTW I don't suppose you have any comparison shots of grymm/kindred/ratlings?

I quite like the open topped Daemonscape jeep-esque  things. They seem vaguely idealistic to me, like the sort of vehicle that a society inexperienced in war (such as the Shire in space) might come up with.

...but I can soon sort one for you :)

I imagine that there isn't anyone else on the planet more suited to giving advice on this topic than Inso. You are in good hands John :) I'm very interested to see what y'all come up with.

I'm kinda thinking along those lines Cheetor. I want to use almost agricultural/civilian transport for the kindred and A more typically military style for the ratlings.

Sorry it took a while but I couldn't find my Kindred:

If you are using the newest Ratling snipers, they are about the same height and build as a Grymn.

Thanks Inso, I love the JD themed Grymm. I'll be using the older ratling sculpts, they dont appear too incompatible with the kindred. I guess the Imperium only takes shorter, stockier kindred to train as troops  ;)

The more I see of the Grymm the more I like them

I don't think you need to ask my thoughts on Grymn, do you :D ?

They are nice to paint and there is enough selection to fill most roles.
