Farmers do have shotguns and rifles, to be honest getting guns isn't too much of a problem, doing it legally is a pain though, I had to fly through hoops for my gun license,

Not a problem buying crossbows or bows though.

Threads is one of my favourite films. Truly hard to watch just because it seems much more realistic and believable than the sci-fi-fantasy-PA-stuff Hollywood puts out ;) If the bombs drop, I think this is how the world (or what's left of it) will end up.

Despite the UK lacking many civilian firearms. I imagine somebody determined enough could break into Police armouries and Military installations that are dotted about all over the place. It wouldn't be easy but the weapons would be there. Thats assuming everybody dies leaving like 3% of the population or something.

... Of course you still need ammo....

EDITED BY MOD

Please do not discuss (or show) the mechanics of how these things work

No, it was certainly not without risk to the user.  But don't expect sympathy from medical personnel or law enforcement if it doesn't 'work as designed' at the time of use.

Still it was a technological jump up from chains, switch blades, bricks, and baseball bats at the time (all of which work just fine - baseball bats and bricks don't jam due to lack of maintenance.)

Gracias,

Glenn
