With regard to flags used by the Pathan/Afghan tribesmen, various books (Osprey for one) show a couple examples. Generally they are triangular in shape.

For example, the Zakka Khel Afridis carried flags/standards that were of various shades of red for the field color, with one contemporary photo also showing a striped flag with five alternating wide red and white horizontal stripes. Generally, on the field there could be various tribal designs or writing.

Also, Ghazis were known to carry standards with a green field.

"The Flag Dude" in the States (and had a booth at Salute as well) makes some very lovely Pathan/Afghan tribal flags -- as well as other flags for most periods -- and is highly recommended if you want them all done at about $6/flag.

Regards,
Bob Giglio

That sounds like a great plan Bob! Heraldry has really kicked the stuffing oput of my longing to paint up all my own banners/standards!  :D

If you mean the "Harry Lightman" figure that they give away with the Black Powder supplement, he looks like he is wearing a patrol jacket. 6th Dragoon Guards patrol jacket would be dark blue with black trim (all those funny French-looking flappy bits would be black too). Home service pantaloons were worn by those guys in Afghanistan, which would again be dark blue, I think with a thick double white stripe.

He is wearing an Infantryman's Glengarry, unfortunately, which no dragoon would be caught dead wearing, I don't think. Cavalry forage cap was a pill-box hat, worn at a suitably jaunty angle.

Easy enough to chop and to convert I would have thought Plynkes?
