Shading vallejo U.S dark green
« on: May 11, 2014, 09:56:13 PM »
I am painting a lot of fatigues in U.S dark green and up until now have been base coating them thus, washing with camoshade, retouching with U.S dg and adding stone grey to blend up a highlight.
Recently, my new batch of camoshade has been leaving a white tidemark. Any suggestions for a darker shade for U.S dg? The colour charts are less than helpful.

Can't help so much with the shading, although I tend to be boring and mix the base coat with black and Vallejo glazing medium.

However, on the tidemark thing... I had a bottle of Nuln Oil wash that did that. I came to the conclusion that they'd put too much medium in the mix, as no amount of shaking the bottle would stop it drying white in the creases. I chalked it up to a bad batch and threw out the bottle and bought a new one.

Grey green works as a highlight as does the field grey, albeit more subtly.

Mmmmm. White tide is possibly a bad batch. I will get a new one and give them one last try.
As for Grey Green or Fieldgrey that might help with the highlight, I have been adding stone grey but I need uniformity here and a premix would help with that, Thank you!
