A hive of scum and villainy
« on: May 17, 2014, 04:27:31 PM »
Living up to my promise of nicking some of Matakishi's ideas I had some time in the sunshine today to get my sci-fi town/undercity to the 'nearly finished' stage.
Here are a few pics of it set up

Thats brilliant WP.  It reminds me a bit of something from the Borderlands video game.

Wow.  I like the use of found objects... I think.  Or are these shapes part of a terrain kit or something?  I know you can get laser cut circles, hexagons etc. At some craft stores.

The hexagonal sections were made by me as long tube (technically prisms) sections from mdf 6-8 mm thick, depends what's going spare. Cut on a table saw that was set at an angle and glued round hexagons that were cut on a CnC router. These were then cut up into sections and some used as is while others were mounted on circular tubes or on cuboid bases. A couple of the stairs are made by me as well but I won't describe the method as it's tedious. Add resin bits, some cork matt, and some more sarissa precision scenery and that's about it!

Jolly well done, every bit of it.

I have absolutely NO use for such scenery, yet it is SO compelling as to make me ponder how I could possibly do so.

Thank you for feeding my fervid brain.

very very nice!!! you should take a look at Lynchwood, a map of Borderlands 2 with a very similar "geometry"! Actually, most of the BL2 maps are terrific inspirations for game tables, i wonder why someone didn't make a huge screenshot repository yet.

yet.

Good stuff. Although the table looks like it is quite a structure.

It's all hollow underneath, again made with MDF. I'm thinking of taking the whole board up to Foundry for oldhammer day but it needs extending a bit. Rather than tack on another square board I was going to add triangular pieces to each side giving another four 'sectors' if you like but still keeping the overall board square. I can have the current board sides act as part of a larger structure and add doors or stairs to pass over/through them into the corner sectors. This'll give the added bonus of having a 'home' corner four each faction. Each one could have a different theme, a storehouse, a pumping station etc. What do you guys think?

Seeing how quickly and comprehensively you put this board together I can only assume that the triangular addons would make the whole thing even better.  Assuming that the triangles are right angled and isocoles (surely there is a term for that shape that I am forgetting) then the board could be extended into various rentangular forms too, giving lots of modularity.

I suggest that you do all that extra work and find a way to cart the lot to the Oldhammer day...but I would say that ;)

Bloody nice, WP! I've noticed on many of your pics that the railings are snapped on the Sarissa pieces. Would you say that's due to lack of durability or your own hamfistedness? =D Either way, it looks bloody nice. I'm very very tempted both by Sarissa's stuff and that from the other company Leon Pendraken is pimping. I forget their name all the time. Model mods something or whatnots...

BTW, how about a gangway or two on the ground level?
