Wagons roll! Dux Brit convoy raid
« on: May 17, 2014, 11:15:11 PM »
Played the convoy game from the Dux Brit rulebook last night. Great fun, limited casualities and the beer got through!

A bit more over on the blog:

Measure with a micrometer, mark with chalk, cut with an axe, hammer to fit, paint to match!

Aha! You can instantly identify the two green obvious objectives on the far left of the picture!

You can tell it must have been a fun game indeed.

Nice looking game.  I have not plunged into Dux Brit, can it be easily modified to medievals or is there a supplement on the way for medievals?

Yes it was. Luckily, neither army noticed the vast (to a 28mm man) volume of beer the players had - otherwise I suspect we would have been faced with an immediate alliance of the two forces to take away the cans of lager! lol

My feel is maybe not. The Fate deck (cards allowing specific actions) is pretty Dark Ages specific, and I don't think it would give a good "feel" for the high medieval period. Saying that, I don't play anything in the period from about 1080 to 1550, so what do I know? Your mileage may vary, and hopefully someone can chime in more helpfully.

Cheers,

M

I thought a couple of guys in Scandinavia (generic region because I can't remember which of those countries they are from) had used their own mods to play a Med version of Dux Brit?

Dalauppror, maybe? I've got a similar recollection.

Yes, I think so. I was hoping he would publish it in a future Lardie special.

Hi

Seems like you both have good memory:)

I have put up some Late Medieval games set in Sweden during the Kalmar Union period using the Dux britanniarum rules : Dux Suecia, you can find a bunch of AAR´s and some thinking about the rules at my blog.

In short, I tried to keep the rules as they are as much as possible, just making my own activation cards with some added cards and some of the removed. It was almost a year sins our last campaign game, at least using the Dux Suecia rules, might be time to bring it on again and maybe even get in in whriting...

Best regards Michael

Great stuff Mitch - I hate bloody Levy in shieldwall - they are usually the death of me.

There was an article in one of the Lardies annuals about using Dux for Vikings, which advances the timeframe a bit. It's still specific to Vikings and raiding, though, so maybe not so useful for high middle ages.
