Hi All,
Here's the next teaser shot for our upcoming Principes / Triarii / Rorarii character set. This chap has an altogether more 'Italian Allies' feel to him, with his Boeotian style Helmet and expensive muscled cuirass. He could indeed be one of the Extraordinarii, the pick of the allies who would form an elite unit who would lead the Roman army on the march, and would typically form a reserve in battle. As with all our character figures, he also makes an imposing Centurion, carrying his Hasta as a symbol of rank and experience. Whether ally or Roman, he will add a flash of wealth and prestige to any unit in a Consular army!
Cheers
Greg

What a corking figure, very imposing, you wouldn't want to mess with him.

Superb! Are there going to be more Italian ally looking figures (or a set of alternative heads for the plastics)?

Hi Adam,
I'm really keen on making a set of alternative heads for our plastics, I just need to figure out the best way of doing it. Metal is the cheapest way, but it really doesn't bind well to plastic. Plastic is the best route to go, but is very expensive for what would be a small sprue of extra bits. We'd have to sell thousands to stand any chance of breaking even, let alone seeing a return! So we'll probably go the resin route, as we have before. Resin sticks well to plastic, and although you have to hand pour the moulds it's not prohibitively expensive for the end customer. So, all being well, we should have some available in the not too distant future. Just need to get the next metal sets and plastic Carthaginians ready first!!
Cheers

Having done a few Perry plastics with the metal head options (medievals) I don't see a problem fixing them - superglue works just fine.
The challenge is, IMHO, making a good fit on the metal head casting to match the plastic neck joint, so its as true as possible - some of the Perry ones do require a lot of filing/smoothing down on the metal heads, to get the right size and so to fit well.
Lovely figure btw!
Simon.

Great figure, I cannot wait for these to come out!

I have to agree somewhat with painterman concerning separate heads. Metal works fine, it just usually requires a small amount of modelling skill which I'm sure all wargamers are capable of possessing.  :D  Either way, it sounds like a great addition to an already excellent range.

After just super gluing some plastic arms to metal bodies, no problems, metal heads etc great...  I find the superglue gel better for not gluing fingers

If you are thinking of doing some different heads, can I make a plea for some Spanish or Celtiberian varieties.

Hi Hu Rhu,

Ideally I'd like to do a complete plastic set of Spanish / Celt-Iberians. There is sufficient uniqueness in their appearance in my view to warrant their own set, rather than some head changes on Romans. That said, it all depends on the commercial success of the current offerings - buy more Romans everyone!  ;)

Cheers

Plastic spaniards! That would be very cool. I'll promise I'll buy more romans as soon as I have finished all the ones still sitting on their sprues.  :D

That would be fantastic.  I am sure there are a lot of gamers out there who would be persuaded to purchase some since they fit with both Cargtaginian and Roman allies.

We are truly spoilt. Victrix have just told me that on top of three Punic legionary boxes they are also going to do plastic cavalry for both sides! With that lot and agema there simply is no excuse for not doing the Punic wars!
