It's the superstructure of a Republican armoured truck... in this case the 'Albacete'

It carried 8 or 9 men and a turret mounted HMG (one source says an infantry gun?), with 3 rifle/lmg ports to each side. There was a turretless version too.

You're welcome my friend.

There's a distant shot of the back of one too on P4 iirc.

The chain links were to prevent grenades and molotov cocktails being thrown underneath the vehicle and to provide the tyres with some protection again bullets and shrapnel, while maintaining sufficient ground clearance for the suspension.

You'll see a similar thing in use on Israeli vehicles in Gaza and possibly modern US vehicles in Iraq etc.

There really were some excellent looking designs. I like the Albacete as it looks very futuristic, in a 1930's sort of way, very much 'Shape of Things to Come' style imo.
