1996 Gen X - It was a Marvel attempt on Fox....Banshee and Emma Frost running the school for gifted youngsters...

There was another series, I think it made one season but the name I can't recall, it was about a gov program that was making mutants and they are on the run...Mutant X was the name...

There have been loads of fantastic suggestions already (many opf which I will have to go and check out for the first time). If you like the style of Mystery Men, a cheap alternative (if you can imagine such a thing) was The Specials (2000, 'staring' Rob Lowe).

The film is not great, but it has a good story about the politics of trying to be the most popular superhero group in the country oft being more comparable to high-paid sports teams. and there is a a very cool superhero called '8'.

I'll add The Tick, I've seen the cartoon before, but just watched the first live action one, not bad, extremely campy and too adult for my kids though.

Wasn't there a Birds of Prey tv-series for a season or two as well? Barbara Gordon (ex-Batgirl as Oracle), Black Canary, Huntress. I'm going to have to try to find that now.

Yes there was a Birds of Prey show. Ran for 13 episodes. Not brilliant, not terrible.

Some of the fight scenes were a bit stagey but the storyline wasnt too bad.

I just keep hoping they can push the Suicide Squad forward into a series! That would be sweet! That is my favorite of the old DC comics. They did a decent job on the last Flash series so this time around with a better budget and FX  they should make it a smash hit.

I watched Gen X last night (the 1996 X-Men pilot), it was ok but a bit weird and just had Frost, Banshee and Jubilee as the only three main characters from the comics, the rest were no names...plus the guy from Max Headroom as the creepy villain may not have been a good choice for a pilot bad guy....who knows maybe Disney will see the cha-ching DC is doing and expand on the success of SHIELD.
