A call for help
« on: May 31, 2014, 01:31:11 PM »
Hi guys...

This is little request for some help.

I was contacted this week by Karen Thomas from the Wiltshire SSAFA looking for someone to put on a WW1 wargame at an event in June...

Due to various commitments I was not able to commit to anything ,but I told her that I would pass her request out to the wargames community .
I have posted the E.Mail that she sent me giving details of the event...

If you think you can help please contact her on her E.Mail below..

All the best   Aly

Dear Aly,

Thank you so much for your time earlier. It is great to talk with someone who is as passionate about his work as I am about mine.

Below are links to both the SSAFA national website and the local SSAFA Wilts version.

SSAFA is the oldest military charity operating in the country; begun in 1885, they have supported our Forces family through every conflict since the charity's inception, and continue to do so; there for them then, still here for them now.

SSAFA held a pivotal role in supporting the country throughout World War One, and it is this fact that we wish to promote at Armed Forces Day/Weekend, at Trowbridge (Wiltshire) on the 28 and 29 June. I am looking for some WW1 wargaming materials and/or displays to help draw people to our stand; I believe that wargaming is an ideal way of engaging people with the scale of war. It allows people to put it into some form of perspective and is also of real relevance today, given that wargaming is still taught to the current Services as a tool in military strategy.

The SSAFA stand at Trowbridge Armed Forces (one of the top 10 Armed Forces Day events in the country) will be in the WW1 section, alongside reenactors, history experts, home front specialists, etc. To have some wargaming with us would really help bed us in the area, and encourage the public to visit our stall.

The more people come to us, the more we can get the word out there and help those in the Forces family who need our support. I can be contacted via kjt42@btinternet.com - please let me know if anyone can help.

Thank you in advance for your help, and again for your time today.

Kind regards,

Karen Thomas
