Building the Frontier
« on: June 02, 2014, 12:41:59 PM »
Some early (and rather dodgy shots) of the beginning of my NWF terrain project. Somewhat delayed but hey.

Ideas lifted from this excellent site:
http://maiwandday.blogspot.it/2012/01/afghannwf-rocky-hill-goes-vertical-back.html

Terrain will work for unit based games and single figure based games (we are playing our second Bolt Action NWF game at the club tonight). Figs are Empress…..

Terrain wonderful, figures great.  :) What more could you want?   ::)

Personally I would love a few clues as to the painting of your rocks.  ???

Rocks are dead easy.

Army painter Leather Brown Spray all over.
Various dustings (in this order):
Humbrol Desert Yellow
Humbrol Desert Tan
Then a fairly free dusting of Spray White.

Pick out some of the rocks on the base with Foundry Rawhide, Foundry Rawhide Light, Foundry Drab Light.

Just experiment but the layering works really well on the bark chips.

Nice stuff! I've got a heap of bark chips and I think I'll give this a go.

Good looking terrain.
I have used bark in small amounts, (that's all I had.)

Great stuff!

Have wanted to emulate the mad guru's rocky outcroppings for years now, but believe it or not I'm unable to source that type of bark in NSW.

Very nice.
In fact, as nice as rocks can possibly be.
 :-* :-*

I have just finished some aquarium stuff and some Badlands rocks and, seeing as that was the easy option, was looking for more.
I think that I am just going to have to cave in and make my own.
Great inspiration.

Thanks all.

Here's the experimental hill finished.
I think I may have overcooked the scree and the spray painting as it does not have quite enough contrast. Still it was a worthwhile exercise and now I more or less know how to construct and paint these so it will be onto some big ones now. Must get a camera better than my phone….

Really great.

Personally I would try to make the bases hug the shape of the formations more.
