Denison tute
« on: June 07, 2014, 01:43:33 AM »
I was wondering if you chaps knew of any good tutes for painting Denison smocks. I've got some 28mm figs that need painting, the camo is a bit daunting.
I believe there were two types of smock in service (haven't got any of my Ospreys with me)? Mine will be the latter mostly.

Cheers, they're very nice, but the tute seems to be going into a WGI, none for me yet. It's a bloody nice job though.

It depends on your painting style, and how fast you paint,or how quickely you need them.
I can talk you through several methods,if your interested.(as I'll be posting pictures of the para's jeeps' I've sculpted for 1st corps very soon).

Haven't painted for ages, but I have the time to push myself back up to a good standard.

If you put 'painting british paras' into Youtube, you get at least three useful guides :)

I've got an original Denison smock.
Just saying.

(Think it's probably 60's not WW2, but it's pretty much the same pattern I think)

Just to put my 2 pennorth in, I too have an original Denison Smock. It's second pattern with the open button flap sleeves rather than the woollen elasticated cuffs, other than that the pattern changed in the late fifties to a full zip for all ranks rather than just the officers. The actual camo pattern is indeed very similar but the greenish Khaki went to an almost buff colour. Much lighterthan the earlier versions. I used Vallejo colours when I did a few SAS Europe types for a skirmish. I started with Panzer aces Splinter stripsall over the smock, then Green Ochre patches then finally English Uniform patches between the other colours. Haven't got any pics I'm afraid but I hope it helps
Cheers JB
