[KICKSTARTER] Ice Age Mammals
« on: June 09, 2014, 04:11:21 PM »
Not sure if this should go in here or the ancients forum, but it seems to have a tie-in to the creator's fantasy game:

I always liked mammal megafauna... always nice to see the pictures and appreciate how I don't have to worry about being trampled by one of them when I go outside  lol

The sculpts so far seem like they should have a pretty nice result too.

I'm not quite sure how well those cartoony designs will lend themselves to 3D renditions, but it is interesting, and they might be quite useful with the finer variety of "quaint/older" sculpting styles.

not exactly terrifying beasts to strike fear into the hearts of man. i suppose if you played with more stylized miniatures they could work, but i canny see any use for them myself  :)

Also are these being traditionally sculpted or rendered and printed? the page seems to have a mix of both. (unless the sculpts are just proof of concept? )

Not really realistic enough for my taste. Nice looking but too cartoony for me. I'll just wait until I can buy some DeeZee megafauna.

Andrewsarchus and Uintatherium, to name but two, are closer to the flippin' dinosaurs than they are to the Pleistocene. I love the beasts of the ancient Cenozoic, but I like some realism in the style (a dire wolf that looks like a genuine dire wolf would be nice, for example; it's only the best-preserved of all prehistoric animals, after all). These are just too Scooby-Doo for me.

A lovely idea I would've loved to back, but I'm not a fan of this kind of execution.

Nice idea. But there's not enough reality. They look to much like cartoon characters.

Against my policy of taking a break from buying into 'starters I backed this - with the right paint job they'd be fine I'd say. Pity it seems it might not make it.   :(

Something about them makes me happy.  I think I will pledge.  I think I can work them into D&D quite easily as we play a more light-hearted version with funny names and all.
This is my boomstick!
