Looking for WW1 bataillon size ruleset
« on: June 28, 2014, 09:22:17 PM »
I'm looking for a suitable ruleset to rule a 1914 demo game in late October. Our miniatures are organized in bataillon size units of between 12 and 16 miniatures with one MG representing a MG company.
I would like a ruleset with a simple command system as we'll fight a battel involving brigade and divisionnal commanders. Bookkeeping should be reduced to a minimum and our figurines are individually based.
Anyone got an idea ?
"The enemy? His sense of duty was no less than yours, I deem. You wonder what his name is, where he came from. And if he was really evil at heart. What lies or threats led him on this long march from home. If he would not rather have stayed there ... in peace. War will make corpses of us all."

Over the Top is 1 stand is a platoon so sounds about right for your organization. Peter Pigs Square Bashing is also very similar in size.

Great War Spearhead II is really one level higher than what you are looking for but may work depending on what you want to portray. It has 12 to 16 stands to a regiment/brigade.

I have heard some folks use Volley and Bayonet but have never done so myself so not sure of the scale.

Good luck.

OVER THE TOP may do the trick but I would have to modify the rules with one figure counting as one stand. I'll have a look at the other rules you mention  :)
Thank you, Shawn !
