28-32mm Assyrians,Babylonians,Egyptians etc
« on: May 25, 2014, 01:51:44 PM »
Hey all,
I'm looking for large 28 to 32mm figures for Assyrians,Babylonians,Egyptians,Sea Peoples... really any of the  ancient civilasations in that area.
These are to be used with Crocodile Games Egyptians and Greeks so accuracy is not that big of a deal ie they can have a fantasy look to them.
Croc's human spearmen average around 30mm to the eyes.
Was wondering about Northstars new Sea Peoples pack also.
Any ideas? Thanks,Pete

The North Star Sea People scale up  fairly nicely, a bit smaller and more slim, but not too terrible. BTD do some pretty burly sculpts as well, so might do the trick.

Thanks

I see Redoubt has some Lukka warriors and Trojans in heavy armor. Most of their stuff is usually pretty large.

edit: found a old post on here,Reboubts Trojans are the same size as Foundrys.

The size is good, but the difference in sculpt quality, esp vs. the Croc, will be VERY noticeable.

The Foundry ones are somewhat smaller (close in size/style to the Northstar ones) but not enough to be a problem, of the 3 I would say the Foundry sculpts are actually the better match to Fitz's pieces in terms of style.
The Black Tree ones are the biggest/bulkiest but the sculpts are rather basic and lacking in finesse, nice enough but honestly not the same class as Foundry and Redoubt.
Old Glory also do a range which is rather variable in size, some a good match to Foundry others bigger. But the sculpts are pretty poor unfortunately.

My order of preference is Foundry, NorthStar, Redoubt, Old Glory then Black Tree....but I have all 5 amongst my Trojan Wars armies and mix them on my Impetus bases by adjusting the base heights.

Yeah...one day. ::)

I am so far behind in taking photos of what I have painted that I have pretty much given up worrying about it.  When things get onto the games table I just hope one of the guys at the club gets some pics 'cos I never find the motivation to do it.

Rob is basically admitting that he is totally wrong.  :)

If I were starting an ancients+fantasy project, I'd do Crocodile leaders/personalities w/ BTD troopers for the best style/scale mix. If I was doing a pure historical ancients project, I'd use Foundry as the absolute best sculpts/ w/ BTD and Redoubt as filler. Nice filler, but not up to Foundry standards.

I'll try to con my beautiful talented wife into taking pics of BTD, Croc, Foundry and North Star side by side in the next few days...

Thanks guys,
I used to own the Foundry Trojans(sold them) and actually have some BTD ones too.I agree with your opinions of both.
But IMO they are all way too small to mix with Crocs stuff.I was hoping to hear that Redoubt's were large like all their other ranges but apparently not.
I thought maybe there was some obscure range of Assyrians,Sea Peoples or Babylonians(or maybe some fantasy figs) I was missing too.Guess I'm ---- outa luck lol
Thanks again

Hey I'm back :)
I was looking at the Eureka/Irregular Assyrians.Read they are bigger and bulkier than Foundry, which is encouraging, anyone know how big? Anybody have any comparison pics?
Thanks,Pete
