Middle Earth (update 13Aug - Mordor force)
« on: July 03, 2014, 07:51:15 PM »

A small start, I am planning on building it up 8 figures at a time. Eight is a nice number to paint, not too few and not too many. It also just happens to be the number required for a single Saga point or a company for War of the Ring.

Sweet paintjobs! Browns and greens have a special place in my heart.

I especially like the weathering you did on the shield emblems!

Hats off to you Nord.  Great job on those, especially the shields.  I've tried to paint those and they are infuriatingly difficult.   >:(

I like those.

You've made them dark and menacing, but bright at the same time. Really nice.

Those are very nice indeed! I almost didn't believe they were the same models I grew up with.

Really lovely.
I agree, 8 is a perfect number for a batch of painting (although 6 isn't bad either  lol)

Cheers guys.

One thing I have learnt painting dark ages figures (or any figure with drab clothing) is that a nicely painted shield will really lift the scheme. So I put in some extra effort in that area. It goes against my usual ethos of trying to make a natural look, but I think it's worth it - sacrifice some realism for some visual appeal.

"And Rohan shall answer!8)

And I like the SAGA connection - I'm planning to paint up a force using the Norman warband list (cavalry!) (I also have the fan-made Middle-Earth lists/battle boards, but I'm still to master the basic rules without all kinds of special stuff being added)
Ask at the LAF, and answer shall thy be given!

Yep, Saga is the eventual aim, but will probably game with LotR SBG first, it works well at lower numbers. I see many people using the Norman board for Rohan, though I would probably swap out the missile activations for some from the Anglo-Dane board. Shooting is for elves!

Anyway, speaking of shooting.

Not as visually interesting as the shield guys, but they were a lot quicker to paint. The duplicates in the unit are a shame, one of the perils of buying from ebay - these are all the archers I own so I'm stuck with em.

Already started to build a unit of cavalry, got 8 ready for primer, not sure if I will tackle them all together or split them into two lots. They will definitely take longer then the previous batches, but I would like to get them done by month end if I can. No deadline as such, just it would be nice to tick off half a force in just one month. Fingers crossed.
