Modular Cobblestone *now with a video*!
« on: July 11, 2014, 05:30:11 AM »
Ok, that's the second one i make. The first one was a great success, and they have been eventually purchased by Intergalactic Games.

Now, i had a precise commission from Fenris Games, and i decided to do something more... elaborated. Firstly, i studied a edge pattern in order to have some modular pieces that could be used in both directions, to increase the variability. Then, i cut a laser shape to make a first plaster body to sculpt with. That increased my precision a lot, although nothing of the final piece is actually laser cut.

There will be several bodies, although i still haven't decided if i will have to re-sculpt them or if i will start from the one i've got making copies and working with them adding manholes and grates. In any case, there will be edges, that could be used as walkways as well, of course.

Comments are extremely welcome, expecially because the project is still wip!

Thanks,

Jack

Well executed as always with nice variation in size height of the cobbles.  Is this intended to be a single resin/plaster cast or will it be sold as a mold?  If it is a single piece then I think you have hit the nail on the head.  If they are intending to sell a mold then making smaller sections of cobble would be more ideal.  My two cents.

The tiles will be sold by Fenris Games, as resin components! Hopefully they will be cheap enough to make a full road for a game, or some areas for a table!

cheers

Sign me up for a LOT of them (if affordable that is).

Your work is as usual excellent.

Thanks guys! I've finally completed my task, the resin is ready to be shipped and i've cast some for myself.

I decided to make a short video to show all the possible configurations of the components!

I know, that's crappy but that's my first one! :D

Cheers

I like the look of the cobblestone.
Lots of uses for them.

By the way, i was thinking to add a specific thread with only the video and in future the link of the fenris shop on LAF, but i really can't decide in what section.... there are definitely too many! :S

The cobblestone pieces turned out beautifully!

Can you give some measurements? What size is the middle piece exactly? How wide would a small road (only the end tiles) be and how wide a normal road (middle + 2 end tiles)?

Also, how many of the middle sections (no end tiles!) would I need to cover an area of 60cm x 60cm?

hi there!

that's what i've calculated: The two edges joined together makes a 54mm road, while each line ofthe middle size is 120 x 58 mm. The standard road (edges and a center) should be around 115mm wide.

For one square meters around 148 central pieces are needed, according to my calculations. For a 60x60 that should be around 54 pieces. :)
