So...

I picked up FoG today.

How do I know if the book I picked up is v1 or v2?

Does it matter at all?

I would ask this on the FoG forum, but I cannot register there. I'm already vaguely disappointed.

18 views. No response. I'm thinking I should have waited to buy FoG...

If your book was printed prior to 2013 it is most likely to be v 1.

If it's version 2 the title on the front cover will say "Field of Glory 2.0". Where did you buy it from? If you paid full price for version 1 you should complain and try to return it for a refund.

I don't think it says 2.0 on the cover, dangit. Just FoG, The complete game with four starter army lists in the top with a diagonal band.

I'll have to phone the shop in the morning. Man, if they have had stock since 2008, are these rules any good?

Sigh ...

I could have purchased War and Conquest instead!

Um yeah.

The more I read, the more of a fucking moron I feel.

War and Conquest tomorrow it is.

Sounds like version 1 you got there.

I play FoG, I like it mainly because the extensive army lists introduced me to ancient/medieval wargaming (well DBA did that, but this fleshed-out the lists a little more!) and there's plenty of opponents to play against.

What are the reasons you're buying the ruleset (whether FoG or W&C)?

I once saw a FOG tournament and then played it online. It didn't make me want to buy the rules. I have just bought W&C with the idea of building two large Dark Age armies, I was impressed with the rule book, the commonsense shown and they have a forum, which, although not busy, you will get prompt answers to any questions.

Von, I was a DBA player, so I liked that it was a natural growth of DBA, except written in English. :)

Basically, I bought a bunch of packs of Teutonic Knights, and decided I wanted to have some games with them.

May I humbly suggest Impetus. :D

Units look great and easy to collect for.

Rules are pretty easy, but will need to download errata. The game rewards good tactics, but at the same time has built in unpredibity so it does not become chess
with figures.

Easy access to the author.

For me personally FOG is about as much fun as watching paint dry, but that's because I like more chance in my games, so it's a matter of taste to be fair.

I feel your pain. I bought FoG at Salute, years ago. My first historicals purchase. I couldn't read the rules without falling asleep, and, when I discovered some historical players, turned out they couldn't either...

Returned FoG. Picked up WAC. No more stupid questions. :)

Thanks all. Pew-pew. ;)
