Israeli Armour colour suggestions?
« on: November 13, 2016, 10:14:19 PM »
Hi Chaps,

I am about to paint some Israeli armour in 20mm and thought of using Vallejo 886 green grey as a base and 884 stone grey as a highlight (I think I got this combination from here). Has anyone anything to add to this? All advice welcome as I have never done these colours before.

Thanks in advance.

I think the colour varies greatly from war to war and even front to front. Early kit (1967-73) appears sandier coloured than the post 1973 'Sinai grey' seen in Operation Litani (1978) and Lebanon 1982+. Just my 2ps worth!

Mig Ammo do a small set of IDF colours, though I think that they may be for more recent colour schemes;

I've used Testors Model master SAC bomber tan (enamel spray)as a base-coat and then dry-brushed Isreali armor sand acrylic over that to bring out the highlights. A final, light dusting of off-white helps finish it off.

This one is 1/48 scale, but I've used the same scheme for 1/72 and 1/87 tanks. The colors work with the scale reduction petty well, with only a little more highlighting to keep the tank from being too dark.

No problem. I'll try to get some pics taken of the 1/72 and 1/87 tanks.
I thought I had some saved, but apparently not.

I like using the Testors paint line because I can get the same colors in Spray enamel, bottle enamel and acrylic.

That is  the Kitech/Zhengdefu with the open bottom of the turret built up with plastruc.
I've got a couple of Academy kits waiting on the shelf for me to get to them. Along with a few Aurora Centurions.

These are all  1/72 scale kits done in the same scheme.

An Armourfast Achilles with some  extra bits added:

 An old MPC M48A5 kit:

This is a current production Revell M48A2C:

Old version of the Revell M60A1:

An old MPC Merkava 1 kit:
