Apologies for the cross-post, but this project will have relevance to both modern & post-apoc gamers.

Just wanted to give you a quick headsup on my new project - which is to create a contemporary/near-future range set in the Asia Pacific region.

The emphasis will be upon irregular armed bands rather than military units, but with plenty of character types thrown in also.

I already have a number of miniatures and vehicles in the works - needless to say I have plans for this project to grow and grow.

Currently its still in the early stage - Ian Mountain has made some dollies for me (the first finished minis may well be barefoot and in shorts, hence the basic nature of the dollies).

The finished sculpts will be 29/30mm to the eye, approx. 32mm to the top of the head.

Excellent ideas again, still love the scifi troops I got from you.  Will be keeping an eye on this one too.  Don't forget that sculpting dollies could have a good market too  ;)

Forum rule 2.10 covers cross posting, which isn't permitted.

One thread gets deleted but this seems more a PA than a modern project so I  have suggested to my fellow mod that the one in the other board be the one to vanish.

From the LAF rules:

Quote
"Cross-Posting" refers to the practice of opening multiple discussion threads on a single topic, usually in various boards. Usually, people do this because they wish to reach more viewers, for example for figure searches.

On the LAF, however, this causes problems - the various threads are separate, and the cross-posted threads do not link back to a single thread (as "ghost threads", for example on TMP, do). The larger number of threads clutters up the boards, annoys other forum users, and "fractures" the information you gain, causing people to post information which, unaware to them, was already posted on another of the threads.

Therefore, YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO OPEN MULTIPLE THREADS ON A SINGLE TOPIC. If you want to open a thread, select ONE single board on which you think the topic will fit best. If you require more input than just the "board specialist" variety, please make this clear in your thread title (for example, "Looking for WW1 Civilians (possibly VSF, or Interwar figures, too)", which you then post on the WW1 board.

If you open multiple threads, the moderation team will delete ALL threads without further notice, except one "remaining core thread" on the board we consider most appropriate (for example, a thread on WW1 Naval Gaming, with "crossposts" on Interwar and WW2, and possibly VSF, will ONLY remain on the WW1 board).

Steve (mod)

Nice project though and I look forward to following it  :D

I've relocated my comment from the modern board to here.

"You've gotten my attention! I'm in the market for some good South East Asian militia / rebels types so I'll be watching this with interest for suitable figures."

Fair enough mate - I acknowledged the cross post straight off.

Trouble is (as with so many of my projects) it has applications across different genre and, from experience with the WW1 Fantasy project, you get a different bunch of posters depending upon which board it is on.

I would suggest it is more applicable (despite the title of the project) to the modern board, but then I know what the end figures should look like.

The rules do acknowledge the multi Board dilemma but it just gets too messy on LAF.  Hey ho.

As you think Modern etc is more appropriate, rather than a straight off delete I'll transfer this one over there as well then Arlequin can merge/tidy/eliminate as he sees fit, etc.

Cheers

Steve

Done and I didn't go insane with the power handed to me either... every day in every way I am getting better.  ;)

I suggest you post the items that are more 'Modern related' here and should there be something with somewhat more 'apocalypse', open a post on that/those on the PA board instead. Best of both worlds and no cross-posting.

It's quite acceptable to have different parts of the same range on separate boards, but two identical or near identical threads is not. It is also okay to mention that 'other' models are in another thread and even to link to that thread.

:)

*Edit* - Where are my manners? I wish this project every success and I hope it's more irregular-based than other recent similar projects. In my head I'm seeing something not unlike Far Cry 3 at the core...

ok for this one be more specific please. I know its early days n all but when you say asia pacific its an area quite large full of very different people.

That is kind of the point....  :D

The advantage of creating a fictional island setting is that gamers can add it into their own campaign as they see fit, but also so I can introduce figures based not only upon people's from across Asia Pacific but also western countries and Africa as well.  The Isle is somewhere that flotsam washes up from across the Pacific.

I hope it's more irregular-based than other recent similar projects. In my head I'm seeing something not unlike Far Cry 3 at the core...

While the project isn't based upon a specific game, book or film, I certainly have in mind that the majority of figures will be irregular rather than professional military.  There will also be a bunch of unarmed civilian types as I want the project to be useful for roleplaying and skirmish games as well as larger scale games.

 :)

Sounds good Matt, any plans for invisible polar bears and crashed aircraft?

Anyway small irregular units would work well, separate heads woukd be a great idea for maximum variety.

Keep us posted.

Okay that works for me... CV's point about separate heads is a good one too, having an irregular force with duplicates in it doesn't quite look the part. Hard to do on a small budget, which is why I guess most companies don't touch this sort of thing and stick to 'Muhrines' and stuff like that.

:)

*Edit* - I've had a peek at the site for this now and like the Land Rover and VW Camper masters. Never satisfied, I hope you're also able to consider the Jeep CJ, Mitsubishi L200 and other retro civilian vehicle types still soldiering on in remote places at a later date.

At least this has inspired me to be thinking about a lo-tech modern imagi-nation once, which is more than other recent offerings have, cheers!

Who said the budget is small for this one ....  :D

Seriously though, having used separate heads in both the WW1Fantasy and Space Opera Projects I can appreciate the advantages they offer to building a force.

Will use them where possible, and or have some head sprues made - I'm after as much variety as possible for my own games.

I already have several other vehicles in the pipeline  ;)

Am glad it has got you thinking.

I intend to expand the background fluff but it is meant to be thought provoking rather than prescriptive - I won't be producing a map as I don't want to cramp people's creative juices. Likewise I'm not spending the budget on creative artwork or flashy bound rules - all the budget is going on greens and vehicles from the best sculptors I could find.

All things are relative... unless of course you won the lottery. If so congratulations.  :D

Excellent and you live in the North, so plenty of retro vehicles to provide inspiration for you to choose from.  ;)

No, seriously... most companies tend to go for late model vehicles, but when I look at photos of what's really out there it's a different story and I'm surprised some things are still moving around.

I'm sure you have a line-up that will wow us though... well some of us anyway.  :)

People have different demands on their time, so while quite a few may have time to develop their own thing, others not so much. With that in mind doing the fluff on the blog is helpful for them and of course a mental exercise for yourself that provides inspiration.

That said, it's all about the figures in the main though and if I am going to spend money I'd rather it went on more of them... even if they are going to remain unpainted in a box for the foreseeable future.
::)

It is something different to the norm though and despite the seeming lack of the "World's Elites" in your plan, it is far more interesting a project for that very thing.
