My poor bloody infantry platoon (in 28mm)
« on: July 21, 2014, 11:36:32 AM »
I finished the last infantry minis for my British WWII infantry platoon (late war) late last week (for some reason I could not get the forum to load for a couple of days):

Enjoy,

Good stuff.

Reading about your extra rifles. I think you have gone for an unusual organisation with 5 sections of 8 men.

Just checking in Chain of Command (as its to hand), the normal late war platoon would be 3 sections of 11 (including NCO and bren), and a HQ of 6 (including 2" mortar and PIAT). This is the paper organisation. In the real world sections could be a bit understrength, and extra PIATS and Brens could find their way in.

So you have 50 infantry, plus officers and support - so you could easily make a full strength platoon - but can probably field 2 very slightly under strength ones.

8 Men sections were used in Motor Battalions (these are the single half-track mounted Battalion in an armoured division) But these still had 3 sections to a platoon. You would easily get 2 of these platoons from your figures.

Thank you both!

@Fred: The eleven men sections would make sense, especially since I can remember that (IMHO slightly lone) 2" mortar in that TO&E. I just have no idea what I painted five Bren teams, unless I wanted to account for those extra Brens one might find.

I guess that is what you get when you paint your minis years after you assebembled the unit and you are unable to find your notes. At least I should have all bases covered that way!
