Love that!  The green overhead windows remind me of a Bell Huey!

I want a VW Thing or a Kubelwagon.  My 'dreams' are modest...

Most fun I ever had in a car, with my clothes on, was my '73 Thing!!

I took a Type 2 transporter (VW Bus) front mount bracket & adapted it to stow my spare tyre Kübelwagen fashion, on the bonnet where it belongs!!

Biggest caveat: if you live ANYWHERE it gets cold, avoid the '74-'75 models.
They use the well know highly inefficient Beetle heater system, which is a spectacular failure in the all sheet metal & vinyl bucket that is a Thing.
The '73 boasts a petrol fueled turbo heater that, properly maintained and tested monthly, will toast your chestnuts nicely in all but the most frigid weather!!  The damn thing is nothing more than a ram jet engine, strapped securely in place in the cargo well, just the other side of the dash panel, that's been de-tunes to produce heat, rather than thrust.  When it roars, you ARE warm!!

Lotsa stories & very fond memories of 6 delightful years with that special vehicle.
Suffice to say it takes EVERY last ounce of pride out of a man to pay the asking price for a used car.
& she was well worth every single penny!!

Great thread - I've just discovered it.

Here's my favourite (well, one of). I think as much as anything - it's the name. I've given it to one of my characters and that's the closest I'll get to one  :-[

EDIT - I forgot to put the name in which is an important part of the appeal. It's a Maybach-Zeppelin DS7 e DS8

My two fave cars I've owned are a 1970 AMC Javelin...

And the most fabulous '74 Eldorado Convertible...WITH A 501 (8.9 C.L.)!

Both pics are the duplicate colors.

the javelin is nice. I personally want a 69 Pontiac GTO, a 66 Dodge Malibu, almost any 60's Mustang, heck any muscle car from the 50's-60's. America knew how to make good looking cars, Europe (bar a few pre-70's ferrari's) had no clue on making nice cars - and still don't. (nope, I do not like any of the new 'super' cars).

IMHO they stopped making cars after '76.  I remember doing a road trip in the Caddy.  We hit a hundred mph.  Pinned the speedo.  I mentioned it to the passengers who thought it was nice and smooth for that speed.  Then I put my foot down and we LEPT forward.  Wotta motor.

Hello all,

I know it's out of period, but I think only seeing this car is not enough. HEARING is believing. It seems like I'm not the only one grinning uncontrollably when confronted with this kind of technology:

I find it conveys much of the exhilaration caused by riding such a machine.

love this thread even though I might be a little late.
my dream cars are all 60's muscle cars - chevy el camino, dodge dart, and impala wagons.

for pulp gaming i always thought a Ford gt50 or an mg-a looked especially enticing.
