Great looking force Matt.  I am curious though, did you pick up all of Foundry's Darkest Africa line? :)

Thanks :)

Yes, I picked up the last packs I needed a few years ago. The reason it's taking me so long to work through them is because I've done quite a few figures more than once (I think I have about eight gunbearers) and I'm making fieldable forces. I sold quite a few I painted on eBay as well, and I ended up reacquiring them when I decided I wanted a complete collection.

I still have to do regular tribals, the various variants of the tribals like archers, women, weird hairstyles etc., pygmies, Azande, and some more cattle. Four more Army Painters should have it sorted.

Then Copplestone's German, Somali, and Ngoni ranges  lol

It's an addiction and easily my favorite period.

I picked up quite a few of the Askari, Zanzibaris and British after your first Darkest Africa Army Painter project. It is an addictive product line.  lol

Outstanding work, Matt. You beat me to doing Congo Rebels, you swine!  ;)

Only your chance mentioning of it in the "It's Alive" thread drew my attention to this. I had no idea all this was going on. LAF is so big these days it's easy to miss stuff. I never think to look for Darkest Africa stuff in "Workbench" otherwise I would have chimed in with some praise much sooner.

Thank you sir! You beat me to everything else like Somalis, Ruga-Ruga, Ngoni, etc. so it's only fair :)

The rebel faction isn't really formed yet either, I just did everything in the Foundry Belgian section :) I'm not 100% sure what I'd use for the main troop body. I have sixty or so Congo tribals with varying headdresses painted but I'd really like some riff-raff with rifles that the regulars use and the black cartridge box.

Doc,
I always enjoy your  painting, especially DA, but you really surprised me with those burnt out huts. They are truly excellent  :-* :-* :-*

I primed up a bunch of animals to go with this project a few months ago, and managed to get to them over the last week. I was tired of all the primed little beasts staring at me :)

I also updated my blog with a few other assorted un-African animals like a cobra and a skunk.

Wonderful!
 :-*

It is little bits of set-dressing like this that take a great set-up to the next level.
