Castle Blackwolf
« on: August 09, 2014, 07:27:49 PM »
Our very own Blackwolf has asked me to make him a castle  :)

Fairly compact and in the style of the Scottish castle/towerhouse but with with a bit of fancy whimsy thrown in and a touch of the fantastical  :D

The plan is below and a start will be made either this evening or tomorrow (I've already cut the baseboard out).

cheers

You just don't sleep do you?  If it's even half as good as the Pathan watchtower it will be spectacular.

That package is going a long way!! :o

If your looking for inspiration, Eilean Donan is the best place to start.  It's been in plenty of films including Highlander.

Funny you should mention that Andy as Eilean Donan was the main inspiration from him (apart from the car park and visitors centre  lol ).

It will follow the style of the Pathan watchtower as in it'll all be done from bricks and blocks... Separately...  :D

I bet internets is full of pics of Eilean Donan but the castle has also a FB page that has more than plenty of pics as well.

I am sure that the build project will ne absolutely great and the end product stunning, knowing your skills James.

Now, what about making Olavinlinna castle next? It's the castle I work for, btw.

Would you not get a better result using foam board and embossed plastic card?......unless you plan to have ruined section of course! The plastic card you use for your Mars stuff would be the perfect texture.

To be honest mate, I'm loving the separate brick method  :D

Made a start. A small culvert where all the shit comes out. I'll have to paint this before building on top so I can get the water effects in, which also means building the surrounding groundwork and painting the immediate area... I didn't really think this through  lol

I think I'll do a sally door on the far side but a bit higher up than the culvert level  ???

Many thanks chaps, it's really appreciated  :) :)

Started on the gatehouse today, it's absolutely pissing it down which is a fantastic excuse not to go out  lol

The rock that it is built on will be added later which seems a bit backward but I want to get the different levels of the castle sorted first before applying the rocks.

There's going to be a lot of different shaped and sized blocks to make it look 'real', as in all the different architectural elements that you find in buildings of this type will need to be put in, I'm also thinking that this will be the method for building the 'Twins' from Game of Thrones  :D

cheers

James
