Hi,
Been ages since I did anything (baby's fault!) but I finally was able to do something. I have been looking for a set of decent roads to be used with 6mm gaming, and have not found anything that I really liked. JR miniatures has some nice sets but they are expensive.
So, I googled around and read some tutorials about making roads from acrylic caulk. It seemed to be fun, easy and very cheap alternative so I decided to give it a go. I went and picked up some acrylic paste. I planned that my roads should be 5cm wide so the infantry stands and bigger vehicles fit well. Also I might use some flock, bushes etc. later on for the sides.
I made a road shaping "tool" out of 2mm plasticard. Then I laid down some wax paper and secured it with some small clamps, so that I could work the caulk without the paper moving.
I did some tests and with trials and errors I was able to do these:
some pics after putting the road pieces together
pics are taken under bad lighting... itīs too bright outside and too dark inside
. And... Ipad is not a good camera
. I will add some more colors to the roads and matt varnish them. Might also add some flock/ grass spots.. not sure yet.
I really like the roads and will be doing a lot more of them in different shapes and coloring. Also I will get some clear paste to make rivers.
ah one more pic, here you can see how flexible they are:
I think I will make my own tutorial about the process I used of making these. Maybe itīs of some help to others.
