Quasi-Mesoamerican Amazons for your pirates and swashbucklers
« on: August 16, 2014, 04:19:05 PM »
The girls of the Axibalan Empire (ex Dragonblood / Calvalcade wargames, now Antimatter Games as part of the Shadowsea range)

and the Freebooter Miniatures Amazons

share a quasi Mesoamerican look (feathered headgear, lack of metal weapons &c.).
Looking 'Ancient' but not blatant copycats of historical models they can make great Amazons for Mayapan by the time of Conan or for a 'Lost World' (possibly 'at the Earth's core')- Atlantis?- / 7th Continent / Mysterious Island in any period from Antiquity to the early Pulp era – including in Pirates 18th C. swashbuckling games, obviously.

They are also reminiscent of Tékumel, and indeed – maybe with an orange or blue skin? – could make some kind of Martians or Venusians: 'Swashbuckling on Mars or in Mu?'

But, while they look like coming from the same cultural group, are the miniatures compatible size-wise?

Don't know. But Amazons in Warhammer still have some fans, so I'm going to post the details of these over at one of the other forums I frequent, where there exists a fan-made Army Book for an Amazon army, and a thread about possible minis that can be used.

If the Atlantris campaign were still going on, I'd suggest using them for that.
