After watching the movie again and getting some of the Rebel Mini's stuff I got the bug (no pun intended) to start collecting again. About three years ago me and a buddy got into it, I bought a few MI stuff and he got the bugs. Then the shiney went away and we both dropped it like most miniature gamers do. We both still have our stuff and now I'm getting bugs too, since he's off at college.

But really, who else is out there still playing? I'd love to see everyone's paint work on their stuff. Still haven't played the rules (the one from the starter), but they sound really fun. Has anyone been playing them with different rules?

No idea...I did see that certain kits are dirt cheap on ebay (some of the expansions). I'd be curious to see what you guys come up with.

I too had a big collection with 3 basic box sets and bugs so suport, died the death at the club a good 6 years ago so sold mine off. I think Khurasan have some of the miniaturtes in their aliens range including the Light Infantry sculpts.

The rules were expanded into modern compbat and I think Agis (prominent LAF member) uses the model for his rule sets if I recall

Rebel Minis has some of the expansion Bugs and the LAMI troopers in their range now, those I used in my latest book "Rival Species" (in addition to many other minis).

I still have a couple of books* and unpainted plastic bugs lying around.

I loved that it was one of my first introductions to non-40K 28mm sci-fi gaming, a sign of the plastic and games revolution to come, that the initial MI minis were based on the (not bad at all) animated series, and that the big powered armour suits matched my mind's-eye view of the book so closely, and looked better than most other non-GW powered armour. (Like a hydrocephalic gorilla, but not like an even more top-heavy version of The Leader) I still regret that it died a death so soon after. Such is the way of games released by Mongoose, though. (Remember kids: they're the GW cobra killer, and so can you!) Didn't help that the guy who stocked it locally was more interested in constantly cramming MtG players into his cupboard-sized shop, either.

*I'll have another flick through, but TBH these days I'd probably use ViDe:FuCo too.

The rules are a lot of fun to play. The MI vs. Bugs match is well balanced.
There is a lot of tactical depth to them, with each side having different approaches.

Hi,
by chance, are you referring to the miniatures of the Mongoose's Starship Troopers?
We have included them in our fantasy universe of Naran. For "arachnids", which I think they are the ones that you call "bugs", we have created a special army list: the Mantis.
The Space Troopers find their profile in the generic Army List of the Space Infantry, for which you can use the miniatures of various companies, from GW's Imperial Guard to those of the Mirliton (former Grenadier) and several others, like Mantic and so on.
We then enjoyed a lot to play "cross over", such as battle beetween Star Wars Clones against Mantids Aracnids.
