figures similar to Cryx
« on: September 03, 2014, 02:03:09 AM »
I'm not using my Cryx figures in Warmachine but am looking for some to fill out my ranks so what are some figures that would fit in with Cryx
I used to be with it, but then they changed what it was. Now what I'm with isn't it anymore and what is it seems weird and scary.

Honestly, I think it may be a bit difficult, due to the mix of undead and mechanika. But here are some ideas:

Pistol Wraiths

(Wyrd Death Marshals...new style)

(Wyrd Death Marshals...old style)

Blackbane Ghost Raiders

(Wyrd Neverborn Sorrows...new style)

(Wyrd Neverborn Sorrows...old style)

Bane Knights/Thralls

(Red Box Games Wraith Knights...they are OOP though)

Bane Cavalry

(GW Vampire Counts Black Knights)

Darragh Wrathe

(GW Vampire Counts Count Mannfred)

Bloodgorgers

(GW Vampire Counts Crypt Horrors)

Satyxis Captain or Pirate Queen Skarre

(Helldorado Succubus)

Bile Thralls

(Helldorado Damned Ones of Gluttony)

Revenant Crew of the Atramentous

(Tin's Bits Mr. Jaws & Mr. Lean-Gustje)

Captain Rengrave

(Tin's Bits Captain Calamari)

Can probably continue for several hours, but don't have the time now. So actually, there are a zillion proxies out there! Never thought so :D

Don't forget Reaper's line of Razig models too, which are excellent proxies for most of the Revenant units, as are Black Scorpion's undead pirates.

I think Reaper also does some good armoured skellies/wights that would make good Bane models.

The Black Ogrun are just piratey ogres, so many ranges should suit you there.

As for witches, sorcerers, necromancers, etc, there are lots of ranges that would suit (not least some of the old Rackham minatures if you can find them - many had all sorts of great bio-mechanical details).

Finally, for mounted models, Wyrd's Malifaux range has a series of Riders (at least four, one per faction) which are often a bit steampunk/mechanical-looking and are on creepy mounts.

If there are any specific models that you need substitutes for, maybe we can help?

Reaper do some wraiths who have open hands and can be modified to hold weapons and they fit reasonably well with the pistol wraiths. I used them to build a Flintloque Wraith unit with the Cryx figures as leaders and the Reaper ones as musketeers.

it's pretty much necrotech that I am after
I'm using some Cryx solos with the various thralls as cannon fodder
I've also have two Dark Age Miniatures, a Necromunda pit slave and an oop Dark Eldar haemonculus

Those RBG Wraith Knight are the only models in the entire line that I dislike, all Tre's other stuff is great. Just my opinion. Those Wyrd Death Marshals are pretty cool though.

Apparently Tre's opinion too - he's discontinued them for now with a view to resculpting them completely.  lol
