El Capitan Alastriste (comic book)
« on: August 18, 2008, 12:45:41 PM »
Last saturday I found the french version of the comic book based on the adventures of Capitan Alatriste. It seems to have been published in 2004 in castellano ( Arturo Pérez-Reverte (writer), Carlos Giménez (scriptwriter), Joan Mundet (cartoonist)). The drawings, in black and white, are really superb. It's a great inspiration to begin to work on spanish scenics.

I don't know if an english or a german version exist and how many books have been published.

I love this day and age, when inspiring movies, books and, not least, comic books, are so plentiful. I'll make sure to get my hands on this someday, in some language. It looks too good to pass up.

I may have to get a French or Spanish version and just enjoy the pretty pictures. I have driven my friend at the comic shop crazy trying to find it in English.

From the author site, it seems that he has made just that one comic though he has also released a portfolio of illustrations (quite stunnings):

I lost this topic... Joan is the original artist of the illlustrations in Alatriste's books.

One thing though: Am I the only one who's reminded of Tom Selleck when looking at this picture?

"Rapier, PI", anyone?

I do see the resemblance. They are both NRA spokesmen also, although in Alatriste's case it is the National Rapier Association. lol

I wish that book wasn't 180 Euros! I'd love to own it, but I'm not sure I could raise that much selling my first born.

I'm a fan of the books, and I had seen a postage stamp with what looked like comic art on it - I had been curious as to where the image had come from.

Thanks for the info - I'll keep my eyes peeled for it!
Check out THE CROGAN ADVENTURES, a historical adventure graphic novel series available from your local bookstore or comic shop (or, of course, Amazon).  I make 'em.

Fastolfrus,

I think this is the same one, but in softback.

There are several different Alatriste books/comics at Amazon.co.uk, but the hardback of the one the Sgt has is going for £40.59  :o  :(

The softback is far more reasonable at £7.89

Or £2.14 "Used and New":

Enjoy!  :D
