Forming the ranks
« on: August 18, 2008, 08:14:30 PM »
Hi chaps,

Thought I'd share some of my painting efforts. Here's a few pics of some of my Home Service Brits from the Shropshire Regiment with automatons on the flanks. Anyone with a keen eye would have seen them in action at the recent Battle of Horsell Common. I've only put a few figures in the pics as it looked a bit crowded with the whole unit! They are all from Ironclad Miniatures and lovely to paint. At some point in the near future I'll post some pics of the rest of my collection which is growing fast.

Anyway, enough rambling. I hope you like 'em.

Ooh, lovely. Really nice job there.

Putting my local history nerd hat on for a second, if they've got magazine rifles then it's the KSLI, not Shropshire Regiment, isn't it? (unless magazine rifles got invented earlier in your VSF timeline). Actually I'm only kidding, don't listen to me.  :)

Well spotted that man!!

We'll say it's the Lee Metford (MLM) and yes it should be the KSLI garrisoned in Shrewsbury but I'm keeping it simple, VSF is a wonderful thing!  ;)

Those are beautiful. I really like the coloring on the automatons. I must have some. I wonder if Mr Ironclad would trade for some resin buildings? Hmmm.

We'll pretend it's the Lee Metford (MLM), VSF is a wonderful thing!  ;)

Still no good. Shropshire Regt. became the KSLI in 1881. You need Martinis or before for them to be called by that name. KSLI had blue facings, Shropshire Regt. red, by the way.

Don't you just hate history nerds! ;D

And I really only am pulling your leg, I hope you realise it's just a bit of fun (and harmless showing off).

Many thanks indeed.

The automations were a very simple job. An undercoat of Vallejo Hull Red then a light dusting of Vallejo Flat Red as a highlight. The trimmings are gold with a black wash.

Fantastic job Neil!  To think you said that 28mm would be something different as you only did 15mm or smaller.  I look forward to meeting these chaps on the field of cloth.

I'd better get painting!!

Those look really nice,  THe painting is exceptional.  A verry big well done that man.
Looks like something else I now need to add to my ever expanding shopping list.
How do those figures compare in scale to other figures, i.e. Foundry or Renegade?

Its a shame they got slaughtered at their first engagement with the Prussians at Horsell Common as they are rather nice. ;)
And in the fleash they look even better, the choice of colour for the Automatons is inspired. :)
Before your head swells anymore from all the flattering comments here get on with painting a load more.

Thanks for the kind words chaps. As Sterling Moose said 28mm is new to me so my confidence is now rather boosted. I'll keep 'em coming.
