)...in this beautiful pict one of the Squadriglieri sports a "Croce di Mentana" or a "Castelfidardo" decoration...i have some doubt that the Pontifical Ministry of War or the Pope himself (it was 'nt Bergoglio) would accept to award with such an important and symbolic award an outlaw...i can add that when the Piedmontese invasion Army entered in Rome in 1870..the easy to chage side populace agressed and, in some cases, killed some isolated poor few squadriglieri together with gendarmes...as they were seen as the soldiers most devoted to the Pope cause....but they did'nt even attempt to harm a hair of the Zouaves or Antibes Legion wich paraded together , with wepaons and drums, in front of the Piedmontese conquerors
