I am no expert on the period, but just visually, the figure straight-up looks great.

Should be no surprise - I have a bunch of Gringo40s minis from their Maximilian and Tonkin ranges and they are really nice figures.

A 19th-C imaginations project sounds fun...

Italy was the original imagi-nation and sadly remains so to this day.  ;)

Great addition to the range! even if, unfortunatly, i already have that period full armies out of old Mirliton minis which are, in fact, 25mm and not so nice as the Gringo ones :'(
I would like just to remind that the Piedmontese Army staged a decenal war (1860-70) Vs rebels called  "Briganti"  in the South-Central Italy..And that very cavalry types of the one made by Gringo saw a lot of service in a kind of "colonial/asymetrical"  countless small and big skirmishes in very rough terrain...the cavalry, together with the light equipped  Bersaglieri, was employed to counter the volatility of insurgents. Casualties of that war resulted, at the end in 1870,  far in eccess of the whole Risorgimento ones...so the Gringo cavalry minis, together with some Bersaglieri same range, could be employed against the Picciotti again from same manufacture (almost identical look of the Briganti)  to set up small colonial/asymetrical  type scenarios (ambushes, attacks on rebel secret farms, attacks on courriers and government coaches escorted by lancers ecc.).

You're Welcome Gringo..
i really do not want to hijack the post ;) ..the idea is to suggest another possible, and less known, use for those  Gringo Italian Wars of Indipendance minis...as probably many wargamers  have my similar approach with new projects..that to say before being able to built and paint up entire armies for historical games they have a try with entertaining skirmish ecounters with few castings..and the Italian Cavalry, Bersaglieri ecc (even Neapolitan Infantry painted as Piedmontese Line its' OK) pitted against Piciotti acting as Briganti from the Graibaldi line is a very interesting sideshow and emminently suitable for games with few castings..lets see some pictures with battle scenes involving Bersaglieri (the main actors of the counter insurgency campaign VS Briganti rebels) , Cavalry ecc..not to forget "Brigantesse" woman fighers (also made by Gringo)..in a famous pict you can also see Brigands led by regular officers gentlemen..they were die hard Bourbon Army officers or romantic ultra catholic royalist volunteers from Austria, Spain, Ireland..again you can use Gringo Maximilian Adveture French officers ecc...

Some times those damned Briganti, not to miss anything,  even clashed against the Pontifical Army at the border with the new Italian Kingdom..you can see a green clad Pontifical Dragon (or maybe if the original dark  blue of the painting has faded to green it could even be  a mounted Pontifical Gendarme)  waiting in ambush for a "distracted" brigand  :D..the second pict depicts a big skirmish between a band of briganti and a unit of the green uniformed Piedmontese/Italian "Guardia di finanza"..a sort of border/customer police that saw a lot of service at the borders of Italy ...Theorically the briganti could take refuge beyond the border if hunted down by superior Italian /Piedmontese forces but sometime they clashed even with Pontifical  Troops or French troops garrisoned in the Papal State. The last pict show cavalry in action against briganti ..probably they are Pontifical Dragoons but very similar to the new Piedmontese Cavalryman from Gringo...and, in any case, the same scene could be set up with Piedmontese mounted troops chasing briganti..as you can see the uniform is almost identical in cut to the new Gringo Piedmontese cavalry.
IF there is any interest i can sumarise some tactical hints and characteristics from that campaign that could be simulated in a wargame.

Nice figures, particularly useful for the portrayal of early mafia types as well!  :) Time to dig out the citrus tree scenery!
