Newly painted shot and crossbows
« on: September 18, 2014, 12:41:33 PM »
I've started painting again. I've started with several dozen new shot and crossbows for my Italian Wars, though some would happily sit a bit earlier. I hope you like. More pics at link

::Opens thread, expects maybe six figures...::

You have been busy, haven't you? All TAG?
It's nothing, sir. Just a burn from a ray gun.

Hi D'opapoc',

This is my most eclectic collection. It, like these figures, are mainly OG, Foundry and Front Rank. There are currently, painted, just over 1000 infantry, about 250 cavalry and ten guns. When they are all painted there will be about 1600 figures. I have only just started adding TAG figures to the mix. I bought a couple of hundred, mainly Italian pike with some shot a couple of years ago and I've just started painting them. I also have to paint a couple of hundred OG figs, mainly Landsknechts and Spanish foot that have been in the pile far too long. Thankfully, most of the raw lead is in. It's just a matter of time to paint them - I usually to paint 600 - 800 figures a year, though this year I'm already over that.

Very nice indeed.  Any plans to back them up with Gendarme cavalry ?

Ilkley, West Yorks.

Metternich,

These missile troops are latest additions to the collection, which is growing all of the time.

I have a few gendarmes - these are a few of the 120 or so I've painted up

which are mainly done with geometric patterns like these

And I have a few pike - these are some of the 500 or so I already have, with another couple of hundred on the way (currently painting a TAG unit of 72 Italians)

Obviously there are some Spanish colunelas (36 man units), because I have a crush on Gonsalvo de Cordoba; I have four with three more in the lead pile

And some more light cavalry too (there are currently 120 of all types, I think) like these Stradiots

Plus a few guns (10 I think)

I hope you like them so far.

:o That is a beautiful collection, most envious, I wish I could remain that dedicated to one period to build a comparable collection.

Thanks guys, it's been a while since I painted much for this period - I spent a huge chunk of time painting SYW stuff last year and earlier this. Next year I'm planning to put on Margnano 1515 at 1:50 at a show in the North so I need to put a dent in the renaissance lead pile to get all of the right figures together. I've painted virtually nothing for myself this summer. It took a small conversion job to get my juices flowing again - I converted a Landsknecht mounted captain (I didn't use this painted one)........

into a C-in-C stand for the Swiss. I give you Cardinal Mathias Schinner

Fastolfrus,
I have written a set based on Piquet's Field of Battle mechanisms by Brent Oman. They are the latest set in a run of three, the last two, Ager Sanguinis (Early Crusades) and Ager Proelii (2nd Punic War) were published by Miniature Wargames issues 309, 311, 319, 345. The rules for this are called "Hell Broke Loose".
