Source for Space Marine Bikers?
« on: September 26, 2014, 08:00:10 PM »
Hi all,

I've got three of the Max Mini Gothic Jet Bikes that are currently riderless. Since GW has quashed the selling of Bitz I can't seem to find riders. Any suggestions for sources of GW plastics or suitable proxies?
Thanks!

Buy up some super crappy painted ones on ebay and break them up?  This kind of "boo hoo, don't sell our stuff!" nonsense from GW is one of the reasons I no longer support them.

GW canceled it's bits service 7 years ago. A year or so ago they took some measures to make it more difficult for companies to sell parted out GW kits.

There are still alot of folks doing it on ebay anyway.

And I somehow wondered why there are more bits than actual minis on ebay.  lol

Someone got recommendations for other bike-rider minis? I got some matchbox bikes and really would like to use them for something more than just occupying the parking lot of a biker bar.

"Uh, I better look in the manual... This book must be out of date. I don't see "Prussia", "Siam" or "autogyro"...

What about SM Scout bikers? I've seen 'em pop up from time to time.

I'd prefer something more civilian and slimmer looking.

-West Wind Makes Lots of bikers for their road kill line. Maybe they'd be willing to sell them separately from their bikes?  If they won't, I'd try Old Glory in the US. They carry and cast the same lines and might help you out.

-Though their bikes come with legs molded on, for ease of conversions, Ramshackle games sells hands attached to handlebars http://shop.ramshacklegames.co.uk/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=25_34

-I'm also have some hot-wheels choppers. I converted up some bikers from Catachan bodies and some old ork driver arms and legs I got in a a bits bag.  Some of the Catachan legs are set quite wide and might be a good start for conversion also.

Two more here:

IIRC, those old ork sets came with extra arms, so if you have some old ork players in your area, they may be able to hook you up.

These are slimmer-looking but still 40k-compatible: Curious Constructs Iron Horse. Not cheap at £8 a pop though!  :?

I've always had good experiences with Bits and Kits when ordering bits, and they frequently have significant discounts as well...

@eilif: That's exactly one of the bikes I have! But I also have some of the more futuristic looking bikes. For them a simple tight leather overall and a helmet would be perfect. More details could be added by myself.

This might help:

http://shop.ramshacklegames.co.uk/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=24

Ramshackle is great, but the riders legs are cast onto the bike and  they don't sell any riders with legs that could be put on maximini bikes.

They are really useful for making biker versions of any foot mini you have though. All you have to do is buy a second copy of the minis cut it at the waist and glue it onto the integral legs.  The bikes even come with 2 sets of hands holding handlebars to make conversion easier.

I found the "Cobalt Mercenary Jetbike Rider" from Black Hat Miniatures: http://www.blackhat.co.uk/online_shop/index.php?cPath=121_182_183&sort=0a&page=2

Single-piece pewter models, four different poses/weapons!
