Love you long time for that link........  Updating my Christmas list.

Thankyou - Friday at the office just got less boring for an hour or so  :D
Maybe longer  ::)

You're both more than welcome, they have shops too - proper tool grottos and much better service than EMA, if you know them.

You are making it impossible to resist going back down to London.  Between Walshs and 4D I am going to go nuts.  Any other modeling gems or must go miniature shops down there that I need to know about?

Would love to know of a reputable US equivalent. Those folks say they ship worldwide, but the exchange rate is unkind to US buyers.

Used to have an industrial/contractor tool place just a few blocks away (odd thing to find in a suburban area, but glorious), but they went under during the post-2008 unpleasantness. Tried ordering from McMaster Carr once, which is popularly alleged to be good, and it was hands down the most dire experience I've ever had with a vendor.
History viewed from the inside is always a dark, digestive mess, far different from the easily recognizable cow viewed from afar by historians.

Well you could always go to Hockley in Birmingham, Walsh's has a shop there and there's other tool suppliers near them all around the Jewellery Quarter.
I was going to mention 4D, but no that's about it. On the rubberised horsehair when you search ebay for it look for it as car upholstery material rather than modelling, it's a bigger lump for cheaper.

Odd, I've always had great service from EMA

I've given up on them since the FREE CATALOGUE. IT turned up, same as the previous catalogue I'd bought only no price list, phoned them up and asked if they could send a price list to be told there wasn't one if you want to know the prices look them up on the web... what's the point of that?

Would love to know of a reputable US equivalent. Those folks say they ship worldwide, but the exchange rate is unkind to US buyers.

Try a google for jewellery, or however you spell it there, tools and you should find similar to Walsh's.

One thing I am looking out for, which EMA do, is the scalpel blade which is a fine toothed saw - if anyone sees one from someone else give me a shout please.

4d do a set  ::)

It's basically a photo etched knife blade set, there's several different ones on the 'sprue'.

cheers

One thing a lot of these stores have in common is the lack of pictures . 4D is TERRIBLE for this. EMA is not brilliant, but their catalogue does have pics of things not on their website.

Another issue, is that because they are specialist sites, i think they assume that people browsing them know what everything IS. I go to a lot of places looking for something to solve a problem and a vague idea but cant tell from the sparse descriptions whether the products i'm looking at will help.

that walshes website has lots of interesting LOOKING watch and clock stuff, but i dont know what most of it does. I might NEED it. but i cant tell!

edit: 4D customer service is shit. the number of problems i had i swore never to use them again.
