Star Wars wargaming models
« on: October 06, 2014, 10:12:34 AM »
Hello there Adventurers!
I have started collecting the new Star Wars Command models with an eye to repainting them and gaming with them. I judge the size to be 1/35 scale, and I am looking for good sources of near future and sci fi models to expand my options.
Can anyone help?

I picked up the sandtrooper and another set with a R2D2 set to do the same thing and they are great to paint up. I decided to place three of the minis on a small base and they look pretty good once painted.

The sandtroopers are about 2.5 inches in height so I honestly don't know if that is close to 1/35.

I've seen people quote these sets as different sizes somewhere about +/- 50mm. I have a fair selection and except for one Vader at 52mm, my collection sits consistently about 48-50mm eye heights for the humans. The figures are decent and if you can round them out with other similar sized figures, fairly reasonable. On their own the sets don't provide IMO enough variety except for very targeted scenarios. The vehicles are also quite nice if you have other appropriate scale uses for them.

If you come across some decent options, I'd be interested to see them as well. The Gundam sets above are quite intriguing.

If they are averaging around 50mm then they are 1/32.  1/35 stuff should look fine.
My best advice is just to go to hobblink japan. Click on the "sci-fi" link and then just search based on scale.  Scales like 1/48 and even scaleless stuff might be good.

Here's a couple things that I found that might be useful.

MaK tank

A quad tank

General Grevious starfighter in 1/32

backordered, but maybe available soon?

And that's just a cursory look.  Best of luck in your search.

Thanks for the input. Really like the diorama.
I have had a good nose at that Hobby Link Japan. Looks good.
I just picked up a TIE Advanced by Revell. It didn't quote a scale on the box that I could see, but I compared the Vader model inside to the Command models and they matched (practically).
