Genre Packs
« on: 02 November 2014, 12:48:25 PM »
IHMN Gothic is close now to completion so our minds turn to what next we can produce for you.
We have discussed the idea of genre packs with you before. This is very short supplement that gives you all the rules and tables you need to adapt the IHMN core rules to a different genre. In essence you would get; an introduction to the genre; an armoury of suitable armour, weapons and equipment; a bestiary if required; a range of suitable talents and powers; advice on landscapes, and; some new scenarios and complications.
We already have some ideas written up for a few specific genre packs and would like to know which you would like to see first.

You can find the poll here:

Ladies, gentlemen and you there at the back.

As we enter the final day of the Genre Pack Poll here are the current numbers:
Blood & Faith; 49
Set Europe Ablaze; 35
Codominion; 34
Thud & Blunder; 30
Other; 6 (mostly Pulp)

Charles thinks that I have influenced the poll as I do have a predilection for all things musketeer. However, I voted first (just to test the poll mechanism) and I voted for Codominion  :D

There is still time for a determined group to overtake Blood & Faith, but please note that I set the poll to discourage multiple voting by a single person.

Now where are those rules for the Dragoon Pistol...

Just put in my vote. I went Codominion but am also quite interested in Set Europe Ablaze. Blood & Faith doesn't interest me that much but I can imagine you'd do it well and it might just turn my head. :D

Out of curiosity what's the story behind the name Codominion?

Sorry if I'm being daft.  :D

Out of curiosity what's the story behind the name Codominion?

Although it is a generic SF game, we did write a bit of background to tie it together...

Introduction to Codominion
"Who would have thought that after centuries of thought and planning that the greatest enemy we would find out amongst the stars would be one of our own design. Yet even when we faced this foe we could not find unity. How we survived I shall never truly understand.”
Codominion Fleet Admiral Vladimir Beatty, 2299CE

The Codominion was founded by the Earth’s major national powers after the discovery of the LF drive allowed humanity to escape Sol system and enact its destiny. It acted as a national counterweight to the growing power of the Corporations.
In many ways it is like the twentieth century United Nations. Individual star systems subscribe to it and are expected to live up to its basic expectations. In return they get a voice in its various councils and the protection of the Codominion Fleet. Of course they  are also expected to pay for it through taxes on trade.
It is still headquartered on Earth and the central fleet base is on the Moon, though there are other bases at strategic points across the western spiral arm of the Galaxy.
The Codominion can be fractious and often disappoints its members, but since the AI wars there have been no systems seceding from it, and many that did before have come back into the fold.
The Corporations increased in power during the 22nd and 23rd centuries until they controlled almost as much space as the Codominion. Then came the AI wars as the androids upon which the Corporations had built their commercial 'empires' rebelled.
The war of 2287 was short, brutal and cost millions of human lives. Fortunately the Codominion restrictions on military grade androids meant that the end was inevitable. Thousands of Androids fled into deep space on vessels they had commandeered. Many more faded into human society and continue to cause trouble to this day.
The Corporations are still powerful, but they have had their wings clipped by the Codominion. They can no longer have armed vessels above a certain tonnage and they cannot use androids except in very limited circumstances such as the exploration and exploitation of hazardous environments. These are fitted with failsafe chips that shut them down if they threaten human safety.…
