What a wonderful thread.

The fat noses are probably due to Huygen and Poortvliet. I spent hours reading those books as a child.

You have some OLD friends in the mix. Have a ball painting them up...I'm looking forward to your efforts.

Thanks! Well the giant had been based and primed so hopefully I'll get a chance to slap some paint on him this weekend. I made the decision not to use static grass or tufts on the base but to go back to basics and use the painted tea leaves method of portraying grass!!

Nice work with the green stuff. Looks like a very nice giant. Look forward to seeing him painted.

I have one of those C series giants (with "Tony Ackland head") somewhere in the lead mountain waiting for some attention.

I'm on a roll with the giants at the moment digging old figures out the lead pile and aquiring new minis. I've been after the minifigs giant on the left for a long time and recently bought one on ebay. Lovely old figure. When I look at him and the frost giant, and to a lesser extent the hill giant, I just can't see them as evil. Maybe these will end up on the side of good!

Great work, I love that you're not afraid to much about with classic figures.

Aside, that Tom M troll you've got in your warband is an amazing sculpt for it's time, obviously sculpted with moulding limitations in mind it's nonetheless a technically brilliant piece.

Edit: posted the same time as you!

I suppose these old figures can be seen as collectors item now and certainly some of the figures are classics. There is probably a good argument for not altering them at all but converting always was a big part of the hobby for me and its more fun than painting!

Not sure which Meier troll you were referring to but if it was this one he ended up with a new face. Actually this did feel wrong but honestly I'm happier with the figure now.

From my vague recollection of that mini, I'd say your conversion was a definite improvement. That is VERY expressive face you crafted. GREAT WORK!

Yes that one, up close the anatomical subtleties are astounding. Don't feel bad altering it, is unique now!

Some new recruits and some primed figures. A couple more C28 giants join the fray aided by a lovely old minifigs cyclops.

The middle Big Guy in the top row has got to be one of THE COOLEST minis I've seen...he fits in nicely with the rest of the Gang. GREAT STUFF!

Yes he's rather slendid. That particular body was the one I had when I was a kid so its pretty nostalgic owning him again. I still had the axe he came with, although it had had it's handle cut off. I remade the missing section and put it in his left hand.

I also managed to bag another couple of giants to add to the merry throng so here's a pic with a wee viking for scale! Hopefully some pics of painted minis soon!
